MURAL es un trío de improvisación libre formado por el australiano Jim Denley y los noruegos Kim Myhr y Ingar Zach. El trio ha tenido una excelente acogida por parte de la escena internacional de improvisación y música experimental siendo su disco del 2010 “Nectars of Emergence” bajo el sello SOFA, muy aclamado por la crítica del año.
Kim Myhr (nacido en 1981) es uno de los más activos de la nueva generación de improvisadores en Noruega, con actuaciones regulares en Europa, Australia, Asia y América. En 2008 recibió el JazZtipend en el Festival International de Jazz Molde. El premio incluye una comisión de Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, un gran conjunto que consta de trece improvisadores seleccionadas entre Noruega y Australia, con Sidsel Endresen, Cooper Clare, Denley Jim y Christian Wallumrød entre otros. Su pieza de una hora, que después fue lanzado en CD titulado «Stems and Cages» recibió una amplia aclamación crítica. Además de hacer música, Kim Myhr es también co-director del Fri Resonans Festival, festival música de vanguardia en Trondheim, Noruega desde el año 2005. También es co-ejecutor del sello discográfico SOFA.
Ingar Zach es uno de los principales percusionistas / improvisadores de Noruega. Es conocido por la amplia gama de sonidos percusivos que utiliza de una manera muy dinámica y enérgica. Actualmente vive en Madrid, concentrado en su trabajo en solitario y su ensambles. En los últimos cinco años, se ha dedicado regularmente a la música experimental y música popular. Ahora se encuentra de gira grabando con sus conjuntos regulares en Europa, Canadá, EE.UU., Sudamérica y Asia. Fundó el sello Noruego de música improvisada SOFA, junto al guitarrista Ivar Grydeland en mayo de 2000 y creó la marca SILLON en 2005.
Jim Denley es uno de los más renombrados improvisadores de Australia, con una carrera que abarca más de tres décadas. El énfasis en la espontaneidad, el trabajo site-specific y colaborativo, ha sido fundamental para su trabajo. Él no ve una clara distinción entre sus papeles como instrumentista, improvisador y compositor. Él fue recientemente galardonado con una beca por el Consejo de Australia para el año 2006 + 07 y actualmente está trabajando hacia un cambio de paradigma en el concepto y la percepción del saxofón, para establecer su relevancia para las tradiciones antiguas y actuales de la música australiana, y para ampliar su gama con la adición de productos electrónicos innovadores y micrófonos.

MURAL is a trio consisting of Australian windplayer Jim Denley with Norwegians Kim Myhr and Ingar Zach. They have performed since 2007 and released the critically acclaimed “Nectars of Emergence” on SOFA in januar 2010. MURAL is a transparent orchestra, aiming for clarity and precision unafraid of static patterns they may encounter in the flux. There are chords, melodies and rhythms but hopefully free of clichéd systems. This is music that is constantly coming-into-being and never predictable in what it will discover. The group performed at the Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas in march 2010, a concert which was recorded by Ryan Edwards. In August 2011 the group will return to the chapel for the release of MURAL Live at the Rothko Chapel, to be released on Rothko Chapel Publications.
Jim Denley is Australia’s foremost improviser with a career spanning over three decades. An emphasis on spontaneity, site-specific work and collaboration has been central to his work. He sees no clear distinctions between his roles as instrumentalist, improviser and composer. He was recently awarded a Fellowship by the Australia Council for 2006 + 07 and is currently working towards a paradigm shift in the notion and perception of the saxophone; to establish it’s relevance to ancient and current traditions in Australian music, and to extend it’s range with the addition of innovative electronics and miking.
Kim Myhr (born 1981) is among the most active of the younger generation of improvisers in Norway, with regular performances in Europe, Australia, Asia and America. In 2008, he received the JazZtipend at the Molde International Jazz Festival. The prize included a commission for Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, a large ensemble consisting of thirteen handpicked improvisers from Norway and Australia, featuring Sidsel Endresen, Clare Cooper, Jim Denley and Christian Wallumrød among others. The one-hour piece, which was later released on CD entitled «stems and cages», recieved wide critical acclaim. In addition to making music, Kim Myhr is also the co-director of the Fri Resonans festival, which has been presenting cutting-edge and innovative music in Trondheim, Norway since 2005. He is also co-running the record label SOFA.
Ingar Zach is one of the leading percussionists/improvisers from Norway. He is known for the wide range of sounds in his drum kit and he uses his percussion in a very dynamic but still energetic way. Now living in Madrid, he concentrates on his solo work and his regular ensembles.He has been dedicated to experimental music and folk music for the last five years and he is now touring and recording with his regular ensembles but in Europe, Canada, USA, South America and Asia.He founded the Norwegian label for improvised music, SOFA, together with guitar player, Ivar Grydeland in May 2000 and the SILLÓN label in 2005.
